Several years ago, I was speaking at a women’s summit in Mexico when a woman approached me afterward. She wasn’t asking for herself, she was asking for her daughter.
Her daughter was 18 years old. Five foot nine. Barely 90 pounds.
She struggled to maintain weight, had severe acne, anxiety, and depression. Despite her young age, she was already exhausted - physically, mentally, and emotionally. Her mother could see what so many parents intuitively sense: something was off, even if no one had been able to clearly explain why.
We agreed to work together. Functional labs and genetic testing were ordered, but while we waited for results, we started with something simple and intentional - not extreme, not restrictive, just strategic.
We removed a short list of foods that commonly create immune and inflammatory stress in susceptible individuals: gluten, dairy, soy, eggs, and corn.
Within two weeks, the shift was remarkable.
Her digestion improved. Her skin began to clear. Her mood stabilized. Her energy changed. For the first time in a long time, her body seemed to exhale.

When her results came back, they offered deeper clarity. She had increased intestinal permeability, multiple food sensitivities, and several micronutrient deficiencies, confirming what her body had already been communicating.

She carried genetic patterns associated with immune dysregulation in general, and more specifically, a strong predisposition toward celiac disease. This did not mean she had celiac disease, but it did mean her immune system was more likely to respond aggressively to gluten over time.

Because intervention happened early - before years of immune activation, inflammation, and nutrient depletion - the trajectory of her health shifted. Today, she is healthy. She is thriving. She went on to study nutrition herself. And perhaps most importantly, she understands her body…not with fear, but with confidence and respect.
