What comes to mind when you think about having a child? For many, it's fertility.

But what about the most prevalent issue in pregnancy?  I'm excited to share our latest 'Health at Work' collaboration, which uncovers one of the most common, preventable, and often-overlooked issues that globally impact 1 in 10 pregnancies and pose ignificant long-term risks to both mothers and babies: Gestational Diabetes (GDM).

Why should you care?

Diabetes-related medical costs are 2.6 times higher. By doing nothing, you risk that 50% of the moms who had GDM will develop type 2 diabetes later in life, and their offspring have a five times higher chance of developing obesity by ages 5-7 and type 2 diabetes.  Understanding and addressing GDM is vital for improving long-term health outcomes for your employees and people you care for.

In our latest edition of 'Health at Work,' I leveraged my HMS GHLP capstone research to take you on a comprehensive nine-month journey— with actionable insights from preconception to postpartum.  Our novel care model explores cultural norms, unmet needs, misconceptions about diet and exercise, and the profound impact of lifestyle habits on pregnant individuals and their babies.
